A special FC Groningen Football Camp took place from 30 July to 2 August, 2024. This football camp in the Dutch village of Wildervank was intended, among others, for children who could use a helping hand. As the main sponsor of this football camp, Oldenburger|Fritom paid their participation costs.
The northern Dutch football club FC Groningen wants to combat lack of exercise in its catchment area. That is why the premier league club organizes football camps for children in the region during the summer holiday period. The focus is on playing football together and other exercise activities.
FC Groningen believes that every child should be able to play sports. That is why they organized a special football camp at the amateur football club in Wildervank this year. The football camp was mainly intended for children who grow up in financially challenging circumstances. This means, among other things, that they cannot go on holiday.
FC Groningen in Society Foundation
Headquartered in Veendam, in the same province as FC Groningen, Oldenburger|Fritom feels a strong bond with the region. “Just like FC Groningen, we want to combat lack of exercise here,” says commercial manager Marienus van der Laan.
“We are particularly focused on encouraging a healthy and vital lifestyle among young people. That is one of the reasons why we have been a partner of the the FC Groningen in Society Foundation for many years. After all, you can achieve more by working together.” The special football camp in Wildervank, of which Oldenburger|Fritom was the main sponsor, is an excellent example of this.
Unforgettable holiday week
From 30 July to 2 August, 2024, more than 60 children took part in the special football camp. The ages ranged from 7 to 15 years. The children received a 'Train like a Pro’ outfit with their own name. They also spent a day at the Euroborg football stadium where they trained with their heroes of the first team.
Marienus: “The goal of FC Groningen and Oldenburger|Fritom was to give the children an unforgettable holiday week. Judging by the many happy faces we spotted, I think we certainly succeeded in accomplishing that.”
