More about our social partnership with FC Groningen?
Oldenburger|Fritom is headquartered in the same province as FC Groningen and has a warm heart for the football club. We are a partner of the FC Groningen in Society Foundation (FC Groningen in de Maatschappij). With this foundation, the club wants to combat lack of exercise in the catchment area together with its partners. At the same time, attention is drawn to the importance of exercise and the promotion of a healthy lifestyle.
FC Groningen was founded on June 16, 1971, as the successor of GVAV (Groninger Voetbal en Atletiek Vereniging). The nickname of the football club is Pride of the North and the club colors are green and white, the colors of the city of Groningen. The Euroborg football stadium has been the home base of the club since 2006, before that it was the Oosterpark Stadion. Famous former players include Piet Fransen, goalkeeper Tonny van Leeuwen, Martin, Erwin and Ronald Koeman, Milko Djurovski, Arjen Robben, Erik Nevland and Luis Suárez. In the 2014-15 season, the Dutch Cup, the KNVB Beker, was won for the first time in club history.
In order to give substance to social involvement, the FC Groningen in Society Foundation was established in 2010. Since then, participation in initiatives and projects that contribute to the quality of regional society has been taking place wherever possible. The focus is on health, social cohesion and education. By entering into sustainable partnerships, the foundation wants to solve, among other things, the lack of exercise in the catchment area of the club.
To raise awareness for the foundation, former professional footballer Arjen Robben was asked to be an ambassador. Robben was born in the village of Bedum, Groningen, and started his career in professional football at FC Groningen. As a result, he feels strongly connected to the club and the region.
The FC Groningen in Society Foundation organizes football camps for children during the summer holidays. From July 30 to August 2, 2024, a special edition took place in Wildervank, in the northern Dutch province of Groningen. This football camp was intended for children who could use an extra helping hand. Thanks to Oldenburger|Fritom they were able to participate in this football camp free of charge.
The CSR Skybox in the Euroborg stadium is the physical meeting place where the social partners of the foundation, including Oldenburger|Fritom, come together. This is where ideas are exchanged on social involvement. In addition, inspiration sessions take place regularly and knowledge is shared about well-being, health and vitality within the own organization. For example, Oldenburger|Fritom encourages a healthy lifestyle among its employees and we regularly organize healthy living workshops.
