Thanks to the knowledge and expertise of our colleagues, Oldenburger|Fritom distinguishes itself as a knowledge-based logistics organization. We invest more than 3 percent of our annual wage bill in education and training, but it doesn't stop there. Since the Lean Six Sigma method forms the basis for our focus on continuous improvement and innovation, all our colleagues undergo LSS Belt training.
As a Lean Six Sigma organization, Oldenburger|Fritom continuously focuses on process optimization and improvement based on the Kaizen philosophy. Translated from Japanese, Kaizen means "change" (kai) and “for the better” or "improvement" (zen). Kaizen therefore forms the foundation of the sustainable innovations we strive to achieve.
On Thursday, April 3, the grand opening of our second BREEAM Outstanding distribution center took place in Veendam, the Netherlands. This is a notable milestone for our company: together with the upgrade of our main warehouse, all our buildings in Veendam will soon be certified according to the highest achievable BREEAM rating. In this special edition of our newsletter, you can read more about the successful opening event.
Since March 1, our colleague Erik Mekkes has held the new position of Operations Director. This means that Erik now heads all three business units of our organization. Oldenburger|Fritom opted for a business unit structure from a strategic point of view. You can read how we use this structure to give concrete form to our distinctive capabilities in quality, sustainability and innovation.
In this newsletter, we would like to take a moment to reflect on a key milestone in our company’s history. Twenty-five years ago, Oldenburger was acquired by the Fritom Group. Since the acquisition, on the eve of the 21st century, new technological developments have followed each other in rapid succession. Thanks to the investments and commitment of Fritom, Oldenburger|Fritom can continuously embrace these developments.
Corporate stakeholders increasingly value sustainability. As a result, this theme is playing an increasingly important role in investments. Including in the logistics sector. For example, distribution centers and warehouses with a sustainability certificate will soon be the norm. Oldenburger|Fritom has opted for BREEAM certification. This year we are building a second distribution center in Veendam according to the highest rating: 5-star BREEAM Outstanding.
