Oldenburger|Fritom has had a sustainable business process for years. The international logistics service provider is convinced sustainable business results in a better outcome. They try to have a modern, forward-looking approach and want to broadcast this approach. May 2019 Oldenburger|Fritom’s newly built facility in Veendam was delivered: the most sustainable distribution center in the Netherlands! Besides having a mainstream waste collection facility at Oldenburger|Fritom, Virol even made sure that during construction waste was sorted by setting up a special waste collection facility specifically for construction waste.
Most sustainable facility in the Netherlands
The sustainable business operations of Oldenburger|Fritom result in the entire organization being more innovative and creative when it comes to decision making, finding solutions and making investments, and even leads to cost reduction and a safe and pleasant work environment. They focus on combining innovation and sustainability. Things like quality, a certificate for corporate social responsibility and the vitality of their employees are proof everything is well arranged. Their new facility in Veendam is built according to the highest international BREEAM norm and now is the most sustainable building in the northern part of the Netherlands.
BREEAM rates according to the categories energy, management, ecology, sustainability and waste management. The new distribution center scored an amazing 97%. More and more new buildings will be built, making the distribution center unlikely to stay the most sustainable building of the Netherlands, but Oldenburger|Fritom aspires to stay the company with the most sustainable building in the northern part of the Netherlands.
Waste collection facility during construction
Oldenburger|Fritom paid a lot of attention on waste management during construction. They found it important to not only separate waste when the new building was in business, but also during the construction phase beforehand. Virol helped them set up a proper and visible waste management facility. This way, everybody who came on site could see that they were serious about waste management. Oldenburger|Fritom placed signs on the different containers and made the construction companies responsible for separating construction waste properly. All of these elements contributed to the success of it. Containers were emptied on call.
Regular waste management
Even on the existing locations waste management continues to develop. Beforehand Oldenburger|Fritom had IBCs and crates to separate waste and emptied these manually into bigger containers, nowadays they have roll containers in the warehouse. Full containers are emptied once or twice a week. Thanks to great collaboration and sound advice from Virol, Oldenburger|Fritom is able to optimize their processes more and more.
Waste management modules in the office
In the office Oldenburger|Fritom works according to the same principles as in the warehouse. Paper, plastic and general waste are collected separately. They are also testing two Recycle Bins. Because of these waste management modules not everybody needs their own garbage bag and is waste even better separated than before. Oldenburger|Fritom is very satisfied with the collaboration with Virol. They try to use local suppliers as much as possible and therefore have been a customer for many years. And the collaboration works both ways. Virol is also a customer of Oldenburger|Fritom.
