In recent months, six students of the NHL Stenden University of Applied Sciences in the Dutch city of Emmen have carried out a Lean Six Sigma project at Oldenburger|Fritom. The students are in their fourth year of the Logistics Management program.
The students investigated to what extent the processes around the packing tables in our warehouse in Veendam could be further optimized. At these packing tables, our warehouse team provides part of Oldenburger|Fritom’s value added services, VAS. This includes packaging orders in customized packing boxes and customized labeling.
DMADV framework
Instead of the Six Sigma DMAIC framework, which focuses on continuous improvement, the students applied the DMADV framework. DMADV stands for DEFINE-MEASURE-ANALYZE-DESIGN-VERIFY and the framework was used for process redesign in this project. During the project, the students were supported by our Continuous Improvement Manager, Pieter de Jong.
Last week, the students completed the project and the result was positively assessed by their teachers Peter Ketelaar and Esther van der Maten. With the new packing table processes, we can respond even better to the wishes of our customers. In addition, we can now seamlessly integrate value added services for new customers into our processes.
Oldenburger|Fritom would also like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank the students for their efforts and their valuable research results!
