Erik Mekkes joins NHL Stenden’s advisory board

Earlier this year, our logistics manager Erik Mekkes joined the Economics & Logistics advisory board of the NHL Stenden University of Applied Sciences. Erik took over the baton from our CEO René Dale, who has been a member of this advisory board since 2013.

The cooperation with regional educational institutions is an essential part of Oldenburger|Fritom's strategy in sustainable innovation management. For example, we have been working with the NHL Stenden University of Applied Sciences in the Dutch city of Emmen for many years. The reason for this is the quality of their logistics management courses. These courses are the only ones in the Netherlands that are certified in accordance with the Green Logistics hallmark.

Lean Green Belt certificate
Just like at Oldenburger|Fritom, the courses focus specifically on sustainable supply chain management. For example, making transport more environmentally friendly and designing sustainable warehouses. Oldenburger|Fritom offers internships in these themes and students can carry out assignments and projects with us. The latter, among other things, to obtain their Lean Green Belt certificate. Oldenburger|Fritom is a Lean Six Sigma organization and therefore students can carry out projects with us that are related to this method.

Advisory Board
In addition, our CEO René Dale has been a member of NHL Stenden’s Economics & Logistics advisory board since 2013. Earlier this year, he handed over the baton of his membership to our colleague and Lean Six Sigma Black Belt, Erik Mekkes. Erik himself obtained a diploma in a Logistics Management course at NHL Stenden in 2001. As a result, our logistics manager knows better than anyone how to build a bridge between NHL Stenden's logistics management courses and daily practice.
