Sustainable and energy-efficient solutions? AG Solar offers Dutch businesses and households complete solar power installations and other energy-saving measures. For example, AG Solar took care of the expansion of the solar-PV installation of Oldenburger|Fritom's BREEAM warehouse in the northern Dutch city of Veendam. "We also implemented the requirements regarding the tightened standards," says Robert Meijer, director of AG Solar.

Meijer has a background in mechanical engineering and was already working in the solar panel industry when it was still in its infancy. As a result, he brings years of knowledge and experience with him. At the installation company where he worked at the beginning of his career, he founded a company similar to AG Solar. At the end of 2019, he started his own business and founded AG Solar.

Partner in energy saving
Today, AG Solar consists of a dedicated team of expert technicians and together they call themselves “Your partner in energy saving”. The company is mainly active in the northern half of the Netherlands, but also offers sustainable and energy-efficient solutions elsewhere in the country. In addition to solar-PV installations, AG Solar also offers solutions in heat pumps, charging stations, air conditioners and battery systems. Meijer: “Just like Oldenburger|Fritom, AG Solar focuses on continuous development in the field of sustainability. We operate as effectively as possible on the market by constantly expanding our services.”

Everything in-house
AG Solar distinguishes itself from many other suppliers in the market because the company has almost everything in-house. “Practically nothing is outsourced,” Meijer explains. “As a result, our customers have one point of contact and they do not have to deal with various intermediaries. Furthermore, the stock in our own warehouse is always well organized. This is due to our strong partnerships with various suppliers. This allows us to switch and deliver quickly, provided that the planning allows it of course. We are also a financially healthy company and, based on a relationship of trust, we do not ask our customers for a down payment. This is quite unique in our line of business.”

Meijer himself is rather impulsive, which means he flexibly moves with supply and demand in the market. “The answer ‘No, we don’t do that’ never occurs to me. If a customer asks for a service that we do not offer, I first look around to see if we can still do it. In short, I like variety, innovation and flexibility, which comes in handy in our industry.”

Cooperation
In 2023, Oldenburger|Fritom was looking for a company to expand the solar power installation of our BREEAM warehouse in Veendam. In addition, we wanted to upgrade the installation to the latest laws and regulations and have a dashboard that provides insight into our energy management. By gaining insight into the generation, consumption and return of energy, we can make timely adjustments if necessary. In line with our sustainable purchasing policy, we searched for a local company to realize our request. This is why we chose AG Solar, which is headquartered in Stadskanaal. This Dutch place is located approximately 20 kilometers from our warehouse in Veendam.

Meijer about the project: “Based on our construction calculations, we first expanded the existing solar-PV installation of 1600 panels to 2100 solar panels. We replaced approximately 500 panels with higher quality panels with a higher yield. Due to the stricter standards, we then carried out a Scope 12 inspection for the entire PV installation.” In addition, AG Solar also included the other requirements that are set for an installation of this size. “Finally, we installed the desired dashboard that provides detailed insight into Oldenburger|Fritom’s energy management.”
